The former Manchester United and England captain was officially presented as the new manager of the Thailand national team in Bangkok earlier today. He will sign a four-year contract to coach the three-time Southeast Asian champions and will be expected to build a squad capable of reaching the 2014 World Cup finals.

“The plan is he’ll coach Thailand for the Asian Cup, the Olympics and hopefully the World Cup too.” said the Thai FA chief Worawi Makudi today.

Reid, who lost two of 13 games with Thailand, stepped down from the role last month after accepting the assistant manager’s job at Stoke City.

This will be Robson’s first international team management experience. Since hanging up his boots in 1996, Robson has managed English sides Middlesbrough, Bradford City, West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield United.
